Holy Week Travel

Hello everyone!

My family (wife's side) had their first Grand Reunion at Carmen Rosales, Pangasinan from April 19-20, 2019 and what do you expect?  We immediately rushed to the north capital of the country and took advantage of the holidays to meet and greet our relatives.

If you are someone from Pangasinan, my relatives include INOCENCIO, POTENCIANA, and NABOR clans (take note that there were claims that it should be spelled NAVOR) but I am not in the authority to discuss what happened to the spelling of the surname(s) but in my observation, my father-in-law uses Nabor in all his documents.  Anyway, I saw that Navor were used in the programme and stage decoration.

Our group that travel to Pangasinan comprises 21 people from Navotas headed by Papa Nelson and Mama Dulia Dacumos (a namesake of my wife) and we were about 6 families - you could just imagine how massive our delegation were.  Sonny (my brother-in-law) and his emissaries were not able to join us as they were in France at the moment.

Our long journey started on the 19th of April and started the day by riding on a rented van and we were joined by a car driven by Froilan (another brother-in-law) from 7:30 a.m. and arrived about 3:00 p.m.  Traffic jam was so heavy during that time that our expected arrival was delayed by more than a couple of hours.  I would like to thank Uncle Jovy and Aunty Norla for

Easter Sunday Galore!

Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified.

Palm Sunday is known as such because the faithful will often receive palm fronds which they use to participate in the reenactment of Christ's arrival in Jerusalem. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect.

Palm branches are widely recognized symbol of peace and victory, hence their preferred use on Palm Sunday.

The use of a donkey instead of a horse is highly symbolic, it represents the humble arrival of someone in peace, as opposed to arriving on a steed in war (Source: https://www.catholic.org/lent/palmsunday.php). 

This Palm Sunday, my family commemorated the day by attending a mass at Sta. Cruz Cruz in Manila.  The blessing of the palm was held outside the church prior to the mass so I had the opportunity to take some pictures and videos to share with you how this event is practiced in the Philippines.

Unlike in the previous years, the people who flocked to the place of worship were not that much maybe because I was here from 5:00 p.m. up to 7:00 p.m. and not in the morning.  Huh, I could just imagine the crowd buying palms and other memorabilia(s).  Mind you, my family got the front seats, row 2 to be exact which didn't happen before.

Hopefully, in the next precious holy days I can still attend to this kind of gathering(s).
